BOBSC Bulletin: 2016

Hello All,

As 2016 draws to an end I would like to take the opportunity to reflect on the year we leave behind.

2016 has been a mix bag of events for the club from welcoming new swimmers to saying good bye to old, but overall the team spirit to succeed and drive forward has remained as strong as ever.

I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate each and every swimmer on their achievements this year, big or small, competitive or non competitive, each swimmer has had their goals and challenges.

From our success at the Yorkshire long course championships, to Olympic trials, BOBSC Summer sizzler, Nationals, winter Yorkshires,  Short course Regionals to our first time meets for our promising youngsters at the Snow storm meet we have kept Borough of Barnsley swimming on the map and achieving beyond expectation!

This year we have achieved more qualifiers, more personal bests and medals at major meets then the club has ever seen as a result from the swimmers hard work and dedication.

We have truly come together as club from the tremendous work our volunteers have done to hold us together and I'm sure everyone will agree when I say without them we would not function!  Thank you!!! You truly are super hero's!

On a whole 2016 has been another success for the club showing continuous development and talent.  I would like to say a very big well done to all the swimmers on their superb performance and hard work throughout the year, and to the parents for taxiing them to sessions and enduring long, long meets! (I know deep down you love it really!)

Well done everyone!  Here's to more success in 2017!!!

Have a very merry Christmas everyone and a happy new year!

Kind regards,

Carly Herbert

HEAD COACH

Good afternoon

The committee of BoBSC are calling a Special General Meeting on Wednesday 21st December at Hoyland Leisure Centre at 6:30pm.

The SGM is called in respect of the below resolution, this is not a change to the club constitution.  As such there is no requirement to have an SGM but in order for all our members to be part of the final decision, the committee have opted to open the decision to a membership vote.

“The members of Borough of Barnsley Swimming Club, entitled to attend and vote in general meeting, do hereby authorise the committee of Borough of Barnsley Swimming Club to contract with Barnsley Premier Leisure on the basis of the Heads of Terms attached to this email, together with any other ancillary appendices as may be required to give effect to the arrangements set out in the Heads of Terms between Borough of Barnsley Swimming Club and Barnsley Premier Leisure’

We attach a copy of the Heads of Terms and a FAQ document for your perusal prior to the meeting, a summary of the position is below.

Appendices are in the process of being generated but those relating to job descriptions will come out of the staff liason process.

In order to be entitled to vote you must be an ASA member aged 16 or over.

We recognise that not all members eligible to vote will be able to attend on the day, therefore we are happy to accept a written vote in a sealed envelope signed across the seal.  Please also put you name on it, in order that we can ensure only one vote is obtained per member, these will be opened on the night of the SGM in line with other votes cast, at which point if you are in attendance we can remove the envelope.  Please pass these to Sarah Valentine-Bull and no one else.

Contract Offering

Per the attached Terms and Conditions BPL will take on coaching and pool hire costs, the coaches will no longer be employed by the club but a management board comprising of 2 BoBSC and 2 BPL will ensure this is appropriately managed.

·        Pool hours will not be reduced, and if anything will increase over time

·        Training time will only be changed if it is considered to be of benefit to all members, parents and most importantly swimmers

·        Coaches will be of an appropriate level with a swimming background

BOBSC will run the competitive side of the club and additional training sessions (eg long course) as seen fit

BPL are fully aware that this will run at a loss during the first 18 months and are not going to over subscribe swimmers to the training program, but will increase swimmers in the link program until they are fit for competitive training.   BPL main driver is to ensure that the Barnsley area continues to be provided with a competitive swimming arena.

Should you have any questions please raise these prior to the meeting where possible in order that an answer can be circulated to all members

Please could ASA members confirm your attendance / non-attendance to  Sarah via secretary@BoBSC.co.uk

Kind regards

BoBSC Committee
