England Programmes National Coach Development Workshops 2014-2015

Many congratulations to our Head Coach Carly Herbert who has been invited by the England Talent Development Programme to be a programme coach on Libby Turner's ASA England Programmes Education and Development Days (EPEDD) 2014 being held on Sunday 2 November 2014. Carly will work under The England Programmes Officer and a Lead Skills Coach. The invitation has been received in recognition of the tremendous work that Carly has carried out on behalf of our club and our swimmers.

In addition Carly has also been selected to take part in the England Programmes National Coach Workshops 2014/2015. These workshops will take place on 16 November and 20 December 2014 and 11 January 2015 at both Loughborough and Millfield School. Only fifteen coaches were successful in being selected from the whole of England and again this is testimony to Carly's work and the success of our swimmers in the pool.

BOBSC Bulletin: Xmas Hampers

Dear Members

As you are probably aware we are nearing one of our biggest Fund Raising Events for the Club the Christmas Sprint.

We have for years put Hampers of various description up for our raffles prizes along with the main prize.  These hampers are usually donated by our very generous members. This weekend we will be putting lists of these hampers up on the Notice Boards at Dearneside.  There will be various items which we would like to put in them, and a space at the side for names of people who feel they would like to donate.

If you could help with a donation however big or small it would be gratefully appreciated as any Fund Raising helps us to keep the Club running and purchase things which the members need for training ect.

If you do kindly decide to donate and write your name on any of the lists, when you  wish to hand it in you can either hand to either Christine or Nick Mawby or if there is a Committee member available who would take it from you please hand to them

Once again thank you for your continued support and lets make 2014 Christmas sprint the best yet

Kind Regards

BOBSC Bulletin: XMAS SPRINT

We are slowly coming up  to once again our Christmas Sprint Meet at Ponds Forge,

In Past years all the Children participating have during the Lunch Break taken part in Dancing at the side of the pool and all visiting teams have also joined in.  It proved to be great fun and was enjoyed by all.

One of our kind parents has put me in contact with a Dance Teacher who has kindly agreed to give a couple of hours free to help any interested parties put a few routines together.  It would be at a Dance Studio in Town so we would all have to get together there.  If there are any interested people young or old who would like to participate in this and bring some fun into the lunch hour would you please let me know as soon as possible so i can arrange with the Teacher. I will also try and get a area after the initial routines are sorted to practice if there are enough interested.

Any ideas for music to dance to as well would be appreciated, jf you or your child would be interested in this could you please either see me at any of the Training Sessions or email me, at volunteers@bobsc.co.uk

Kind Regards

BOBSC Bulletin: BOBSC news!

Hi all,

We have had some more great news in the Barnsley camp!

I announced just over a week ago that our very own Thomas speed had earned a place on the England talent beacon programme for the north east.

Thomas has recently received another letter from the asa that he has been selected to go on a "aspiring performance swimmer seminar" at Loughborough university and also a "national events camp" over 3 days at millfield school!

This is in an amazing achievement for Thomas, and on behalf of the club I would like to say a big well done!

BOBSC Bulletin: Matlock and District Meet

Hi all,

It was a very successful weekend again for the borough of barnsley swimming club, this time a team of 14 swimmers competing at the level 3 Matlock and district event.

The team managed 31 personal best times, 9 golds, 10 silvers, 2 bronze medals along with 14 placed 4th to 10th positions.

At the end of the day after a long afternoon session, Libby turner successfully made the girls skins event from her 200im swim.

The skins events are based on a 50m sprint swam within a 2 minute turnaround time. The judges select the strokes and all swimmers race off to gain a position in the next round (total of 7 races). The slowest swimmer is eliminated from the event.

After just coming out of the 100m free Libby went on to win 5 out of the 7 rounds and the first place prize of £50!

From all of the borough of barnsley team I would like to say a very big well done to everyone who took part at the meet and a huge thank you to team manager on the day Craig lee.

An excellent result for all the swimmers!

Go team BOBSC
