Parent Coaching
Hi all,
It has been brought to my attention that we have been having a few situations at training where parents
are self-coaching their children during training sessions recently.
I know we all want the best for our children and the very best coaching as well but we need to
understand that for coaches this can become very distracting when they are trying to do their jobs.
Granted sometimes they do not see everything (they are only human after all) and they do
value your input, however, the impact of a parent teaching technique to their child and then their coach
teaching technique to them also can have a drastic effect on their progression and development
through their swimming career. This in turn can lead to some confusion and pressure that some swimmers
may not be able to cope with causing a setback in their training.
Could I please therefore politely request that Parents refrain from coaching their swimmers whilst they
are in the pool. If any parent has any concerns regarding their child’s progression, training and techniques
could they kindly ask their coach for a 5-10 minute conversation before or after the training session to
discuss this.
If anyone would also like to discuss and queries with myself I am always reachable via email through
the club website.
Thank you.
Kind regards
Carly Herbert
