Hi all,
The club has had a fantastic start to the year with competition results but
there still seems to be something missing when attending meets and the
number of swimmers attending meets too!
Firstly we still have swimmers turning up late for warm ups and the start of
sessions at competitions. This becomes quite difficult for the coach on
poolside and for the swimmer to prepare for their races. Granted some swims
they may be competing in are at the end of a session but preparing in a busy
25m warm up and cool down pool to compete in a 50m pool with no start
practice is not good preparation to swim well.
All swimmers should arrive on pool side 10 minutes before a warm up at meets
to stretch and prepare for the pool warm up with the rest of the team
competing at that meet. If swimmers are competing in later events they can
use the warm up facilities provided on the day if they are available. This
is stated in the squad expectations.
Another problem has been swimmers representing the club at competitions
without the club shirts or hats. This becomes a problem identifying swimmers
not wearing the club hat when stood behind the blocks and can lead to races
being missed.
Wearing the club kit identifies you as a borough of barnsley swimmer, and
means you belong to a team.
Be proud to wear your barnsley cap and shirt! Your part of a club that is
ranked 9th in Yorkshire! Something everything single swimmer should be proud
of!
Lastly, we seem to be having small numbers attending meets and it always
seems to be the same faces too!
If your unsure whether the competition circulated via email by the
competition secretary is right for you, speak to your coach at the end of a
session to discuss the right meets/events to compete in!
It's important that you compete in competitions on a regular basis to
monitor your progression, otherwise, what do we train for? The recommended
amount of competitions per season is stated in the squad expectations.
Set yourselves targets and goals, speak to your coach and go for it!
Remember, It all starts with a dream!
Go team BOBSC!
